#McDStories presents: When hashtags bite back

I'm pretty sure McDonalds is the biggest food chain in the world. There are roughly 1 400 restaurants in Canada and more than 35 000 in the world. However, McDonalds also has extremely unhealthy foods that have made many people (especially in North America) obese. So when a hugely controversial company tries a marketing campaign like #McDStories, it doesn't surprise me that it ends up backfiring.

#McDStories was supposed to be a place to share heart-warming stories about their products, sort of like the Tim-Hortons commercials, except on Twitter. But instead, people shared stories like "my daughter lacerated her throat with a piece of plastic in a burger. McD said 'tough'".

Originally, this seemed like a good idea, but clearly did not work for McDonalds. To me, it would have worked for a smaller business trying to get noticed. However, McDonalds already has a really bad reputation and their executives should have known that this was going to happen. It is too bad that they were out of touch with the public's opinion of their food when they launched the campaign, otherwise the #McDStories fiasco would never have happened.

I Quit the Internet

You know those advertisements that pop up whenever you try to watch a video on youtube or click on a website. I cannot stand those! It feels like it's a game where you have to just constantly click an army of ads away. Their not even relevant to what I am searching for! One time, I was watching a video of Moto-cross, and I got an ad for allergy relief. Must be all the dirt, y'know? Anyways. The internet used to be a place free of these companies annoying people for their money, but there are now more and more ads interrupting me when I am trying to relax or even when I am working. I think I'll just turn off the computer and go outside to do something healthy instead.

A Defining Moment

When I was 4, I was playing in my room with my little brother and sister. We were having great fun until my door suddenly closed. It got jammed stuck and we couldn't open open it, so then we started to cry. No one else was home, so we sat there for a while. Then, I took a book from the shelf and started to it read to them. It calmed them sown until my mom arrived, then we screamed deafeningly loud when she asked where we were. Now when I look back at it, the entire thing was silly to be scared of, but I think it is a defining moment for me because I did something when we were trapped with no hope of escape. Even though I could not open the door, I still was able to help my brother and sister. This moment taught me that I can always do something to help a situation I have no control of.
